Proctor And Gamble Famously Said…

pg

Gamble of Proctor and Gamble famously said:

“Any fool can make soap. It takes a genius to sell it!”

Yes and No!

Following on from the previous post, I’d wager any fool can’t actually make soap!

And there’s a ton of folks who wouldn’t, even if gifted the recipe!

And ‘genius’ is to strong a word, although I suppose great advertising men like Ogilvy or someone who turned a liquid soap into a global empire like Rich DeVos might accept the genius label.

Actually,

Advertising, marketing and selling anything successfully is more methodical than ingenious!

It’s more about initiative and discipline than talent.

Anybody can make themselves into a super-salesman from scratch if they determine to do so!

George Forman is testament to that!

And today, tonight or tomorrow, Jerry Murphy’ll make yet another sale ‘cuz I’m going to the shop and buy me a jar of Murphy’s Oil Soap!

I think that’s right. Advertising agencies want to be “creative”. The truly successful in Direct Marketing want to do what they know will sell stuff!

  2. It really is about more than people think. These things need to be planned out methodically.
